A bride battling terminal cancer passed away in the arms of her new husband just hours after their wedding. Jade Tabrar, 37, from Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, died peacefully on November 3, shortly after marrying her long-time partner and soulmate, Adam Kemp, 42.
The mother-of-five was diagnosed with stomach cancer in August 2023 after losing weight and experiencing severe stomach pain during her pregnancy. Despite initially being told it was stress on her body, further tests after giving birth to a healthy baby boy in February 2023 confirmed she had Stage 2 stomach cancer, which quickly progressed to Stage 4.
Determined to make the most of the time she had left, Jade and Adam decided to marry after being told she had only three months to live. Friends and hospice staff helped organize a heartfelt ceremony at their home, arranging everything from a cake to the paperwork in just days.
Adam recalled: “She looked into my eyes and said how happy she was to finally be Mrs Kemp. Then her head fell forward, and I knew she was gone. We stayed there together — just us. It was the most beautiful day; I finally married the love of my life.”
The couple, who had been together for 19 years, had always planned to marry on their 20th anniversary in 2026 but brought the date forward after Jade’s condition worsened. Despite being gravely ill, Jade was determined to make their wedding dream come true. She wore a cherished bridesmaid dress from a family wedding, altered to fit her frail frame.
Surrounded by close family and friends, the couple exchanged vows at 2pm on November 3. Adam knelt beside Jade’s wheelchair so they could be face-to-face as they said “I do.” Guests were moved to tears by the depth of their love.
Later that evening, Jade became weaker, and hospice staff confirmed that the end was near. At 10:45pm, she took her final breath in Adam’s arms — just hours after becoming his wife.
Now, Adam, who has left his job to care for their children, says he takes comfort in knowing Jade got her dream wedding before she passed. Friends have since raised Jade’s GoFundMe target to £4,000 to support the family and help cover funeral expenses.
