Jamaat Ameer Rules Out Tarique Rahman Meeting During London Visit
  • No Meeting With Tarique Rahman Scheduled During Brief London Transit, Confirms Jamaat Ameer

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, the Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has officially dismissed speculations regarding a potential high-profile meeting with BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman during his current stay in the United Kingdom. Speaking at a press conference held at a venue in East London on Thursday, the party chief clarified that his itinerary for this specific trip does not include any engagement with the BNP leadership.

Responding to inquiries from the Daily Dazzling Dawn correspondent, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman explained that the brevity of his visit is the primary factor. He noted that he has arrived in London for only a single day, leaving no window for political consultations outside of his official engagements. When pressed by reporters on whether he would have sought a meeting had time permitted, the Ameer declined to provide a definitive answer, stating that since the opportunity does not exist in the current schedule, the question remains hypothetical.

The Jamaat chief also addressed the broader political climate in Bangladesh, particularly concerning the timeline for the next national polls. Amid ongoing discussions regarding the electoral roadmap following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina administration, Dr. Rahman remained firm on the necessity of adhering to the schedule. He told gathered journalists that there is no scope to delay the elections and expressed confidence that the transition of power through the ballot box will occur at the designated time.

This visit marks another in a series of trips Dr. Rahman has made to the United Kingdom since the political upheaval in Bangladesh earlier this year. Detailing the purpose of his sudden arrival, he informed the media that he is in London primarily to conduct meetings with high-ranking officials of the British government. These discussions are believed to center on the evolving political landscape and bilateral interests between the two nations.

Following the conclusion of his official activities in London, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman is scheduled to depart for Saudi Arabia to perform the holy pilgrimage of Umrah. Sources within the party have confirmed that the Ameer is expected to conclude his tour and return to Bangladesh on December 21.
