Pakistan will forfeit its match against India in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup after the government decided the team would not take the field against its arch-rival.
The decision was announced by the Government of Pakistan on Sunday evening, ending days of speculation over whether the highly anticipated match would go ahead. The government clarified that Pakistan will still participate in the rest of the T20 World Cup, scheduled to run from February 7 to March 8, 2026.
In an official statement, the government said it had approved Pakistan’s participation in the tournament but instructed the team not to play the match against India, scheduled for February 15, 2026.
The announcement reportedly came hours after Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, suggesting the decision was taken at the highest political level.
The move means Pakistan will concede the match to India under tournament rules, marking a major development in cricketing ties between the two countries. Source: Cricbuzz
