Sheffield's community is united in grief following the identification of 32-year-old Daniel Mahmood as the victim of Friday’s devastating road traffic collision.
The fatal incident, which occurred at approximately 10:40 pm on April 24, transpired on Savile Street East when a black Porsche Cayenne, travelling away from the city centre, collided with a Seat Ibiza. While the occupants of the Seat escaped with minor injuries and are currently assisting South Yorkshire Police with the ongoing investigation, the occupants of the Porsche suffered catastrophic consequences.
Daniel Mahmood, a resident of the Tinsley area, succumbed to serious head injuries the following day. A 26-year-old male passenger remains in a hospital facility in a serious but stable condition, battling similar trauma.
In an exclusive report for Daily Dazzling Dawn, we can confirm that Mr. Mahmood’s heritage traces back to the Mirpur district of Pakistan, specifically the Kanayli region. He was a well-known figure on Harrowden Road, belonging to a prominent local family. He was the son of Ch Zaffar Mahmood and the brother of Shehroz Mahmood. His family tree includes deep roots in the Sheffield professional and academic community, notably his uncle Ch Mohammed Razzaq of Sheffield College and his uncle, Barrister Abid Hussain.
Tributes have poured in through Janaza South Yorkshire, painting a portrait of a vibrant young man with "so many plans" for the future. Friends and former college peers described him as a "top guy" who was perpetually "happy and smiling," leaving a significant void in the Tinsley community.
As the legal process unfolds, South Yorkshire Police are meticulously reconstructing the final moments leading up to the impact. Authorities are currently examining dashcam footage and seeking further witnesses to establish the precise mechanics of the collision. At this stage, no charges have been filed, and the focus remains on gathering forensic evidence to ensure a comprehensive report for the Coroner’s Office.
Regarding the final rites, the Janaza (funeral) time is not confirmed yet. The family is expected to announce arrangements once the formal post-mortem procedures are concluded and the body is released for burial.
Following this tragedy, the next steps involve a formal inquest opening and a continued appeal for any digital evidence. Anyone who witnessed the Porsche Cayenne's manner of driving prior to the incident is urged to contact investigators immediately.
