Carrie Johnson, wife of former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, has warned that notorious serial sex offender John Worboys may have attacked “up to 1,000 women, if not more” during the years he worked as a London taxi driver.

Johnson, who played a key role in helping police build the case against Worboys, spoke out after the Parole Board recently ruled that the convicted rapist still poses a “high risk” of committing further serious sexual offences and refused his release.

Speaking on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, Johnson said many women may still not realise they were victims because they were unknowingly drugged during journeys in Worboys’ taxi.

She explained that Worboys operated as a cab driver between 2000 and his conviction in 2009, potentially working night after night across London while targeting vulnerable women.

According to Johnson, more women have recently contacted her after watching an ITV drama based on the case, saying they now suspect they may have been assaulted by him. She believes these additional testimonies could help ensure Worboys remains behind bars permanently.

Johnson urged any woman who believes they may have encountered Worboys to come forward to police, even years later.

Worboys was first convicted in 2009 of 19 sexual offences involving 12 women between 2006 and 2008. He drugged victims by offering them champagne or vodka laced with sedatives after falsely claiming he had won money at a casino.

In 2019, after more women came forward, he received a life sentence with a minimum term of six years for additional offences committed between 2000 and 2008.

Johnson herself was just 19 years old when she encountered Worboys in 2007 after a night out in Chelsea. Waiting for a night bus, she accepted a cheap ride from him to her mother’s home in south-west London.

During the journey, Worboys offered her champagne, claiming he was celebrating casino winnings. Johnson later revealed that she secretly poured the drink onto the floor of the taxi because she felt suspicious.

She said Worboys later stopped near Putney Common, left the vehicle briefly, and returned with vodka, pressuring her to drink. After eventually arriving home, Johnson recalled collapsing fully clothed in her bathroom and losing consciousness.

Her testimony later became crucial to the investigation. She identified Worboys in a police lineup and provided detectives with the phone number he had given her, helping authorities connect more victims to the case.

Worboys remains imprisoned and is expected to face another parole review in approximately two years.
