A large number of activists and supporters gathered in Oxford, UK, to welcome Hasnat Abdullah and Shadik Kayem, the two primary coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, ahead of a pre-scheduled debate event. To greet and congratulate the two leaders, a significant number of activists from the NCP and Jamaat-Shibir assembled in front of the Oxford debate venue today, Sunday, shortly before 6:00 PM local time.
The gathering welcomed Hasnat Abdullah and Shadik Kayem with vibrant chanting and slogans.
Concurrently, a group of UK Awami League activists, led by leader Sushanta Das, arrived at the scene aboard a double-decker bus and began staging a counter-protest.
To maintain law and order, police personnel were deployed in front of the debate venue. Both sides continued to chant counter-slogans targeting each other. However, no untoward incidents were reported as of 6:15 PM. The police maintained a strict stance to keep the situation peaceful.
Notably, this demonstration comes just two days after the NCP held a rally featuring Hasnat Abdullah at Altab Ali Park in East London last Friday, where Awami League activists were also seen chanting slogans this Sunday afternoon.
