Brendon O’Hagan, Amanda Kelly, Mohammed Malik and Hmeera Atiqnisar were sentenced at Preston Crown Court on 30 October 2026 for criminal damage to the Barclays Bank on St James Street in Burnley, Daily Dazzling Dawn understands. The court heard that windows at the premises were smashed and red paint was sprayed on the bank in the early hours of 5 August 2024, causing damage valued at more than £5,000. The sentencing follows a police investigation and a Crown Prosecution Service review that led to five people being charged in connection with the incident.
Officers were called to the Barclays Bank in St James Street at 2.09am on Monday 5 August 2024 following a report of criminal damage. Windows had been smashed and red paint sprayed on the premises. A short time later, two men and three women were arrested after a car was stopped on Huffling Lane in Burnley. Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, five people were charged with criminal damage to property over a value of £5,000. Daily Dazzling Dawn understands that four of the five defendants appeared at Preston Crown Court for sentencing on 30 October 2026.
Brendon O’Hagan, 28, of no fixed address, Amanda Kelly, 32, of Ashlynne in Ashton-Under-Lyne, and Mohammed Malik, 28, of Addison Street in Blackburn were each sentenced to 20 months in prison suspended for 20 months. Hmeera Atiqnisar, 31, of Lyons Lane in Chorley received a two-year sentence suspended for 20 months. The sentences were passed at Preston Crown Court after the court considered the damage caused to the bank and the circumstances of the offence. Daily Dazzling Dawn understands that the four defendants were among those charged following the police response in August 2024.
A suspended sentence is a custodial term that is not served immediately. In this case, the prison terms were suspended for 20 months, meaning the defendants are subject to the terms of the order and may be brought back before the court if they commit further offences or breach conditions during that period. The disposal allows the court to impose a custodial sentence while stopping short of immediate imprisonment. Daily Dazzling Dawn understands that the sentencing brings the four defendants’ part in the proceedings to a close, although the case itself is not fully concluded.
Alma Yaniv, 70, of Verney Crescent in Liverpool, is due to be sentenced on 8 December. She was one of the five people charged in connection with the criminal damage at the Barclays Bank in Burnley. Daily Dazzling Dawn understands that the fifth defendant’s sentencing hearing will follow the same case, which arose from the incident on 5 August 2024. The remaining hearing means the court process will continue into December before all five defendants have been sentenced.
The incident caused damage to a high street bank in Burnley and required a police response in the early hours of the morning. The charge referred to criminal damage to property over a value of £5,000, and the Crown Prosecution Service was consulted before charges were brought. The case also highlights the way in which damage to commercial premises is treated by the courts when the value of the damage and the circumstances of the offence are taken into account. For Burnley, the sentencing closes a lengthy period between the incident in August 2024 and the court outcome in October 2026, while the December hearing for the fifth defendant remains outstanding.
