At least 11 Killed in Shooting at House Party in South Africa

At least 11 people have been killed in a mass shooting at a house party in South Africa.

Three men reportedly entered a property in KwaMakhutha, about 19 miles (30km) south of the eastern coastal city of Durban, and opened fire on people attending a party on Tuesday night.

Police said one of the victims was a woman believed to be pregnant. Three other people were injured in the shooting.

Authorities are searching for the suspects, but no arrests have been made so far.

The South African Police Service said initial information indicated that 13 men and one woman, who was believed to be pregnant, were inside the house when three men arrived and began shooting.

"Ten victims, including the woman, died at the scene and four were taken to hospital where one of them succumbed to gunshot injuries," police said in a statement.

The motive for the attack remains unclear. However, police said some of those inside the house were known to them through investigations into criminal activity.

Police did not provide further details about those investigations.

While the exact motive has not yet been established, authorities said a conflict between rival groups could not be ruled out as a possible reason for the shooting.
