An international manhunt is underway following the discovery of a mother's body in County Kerry.
An Garda Síochána has launched a comprehensive investigation after 43-year-old Jamey Carney was found deceased at her residence in Homeland Estate, Muckross Road, Killarney. The discovery was made on Tuesday afternoon after her 13-year-old daughter grew concerned for her welfare and alerted a family friend. Emergency services arrived at the scene around 1:20 PM, where Ms. Carney was pronounced dead in her bed with significant head injuries.
Investigative sources indicate that the incident likely occurred late on Monday night or during the early hours of Tuesday morning, as the sound of a verbal dispute was heard at the property during that timeframe. Detectives are currently tracing the movements of a suspect in his 20s, a Middle Eastern national who had been residing at a local International Protection Accommodation Services (IPAS) centre. The individual, who was known to Ms. Carney and occasionally stayed at the property, is believed to have previously lived in France before arriving in Ireland in mid-2024. Authorities harbor concerns that he may attempt to leave the jurisdiction.
Community in Mourning
The tragic event has deeply affected the local community in Killarney, where Ms. Carney had resided for the past five years. Originally from New York, she was well regarded locally for her active involvement in community campaigns, including the local Palestine support movement.
Local non-party councillor Martin Grady, who had provided professional assistance to Ms. Carney, shared his thoughts on the tragedy. "I knew her well. Everyone is really shocked," he told a journalist, adding that she was a loving mother and a very hard worker. He urged anyone with information, regardless of how minor it might seem, to contact the authorities immediately.
Echoing the sentiment, councillor John O’Donoghue of the Kerry Independent Alliance remarked to a journalist that the town was cloaked in sadness, stating that the air had simply gone out of the community.
The scene at Muckross Road remains preserved as the Garda Technical Bureau conducts a forensic examination. A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to direct the case from an incident room established at Killarney Garda Station, and the State Pathologist has been notified to conduct a formal post-mortem examination.
As reported by the Daily Dazzling Dawn, authorities are requesting any witnesses who were in the Muckross Road area between the evening of Monday, 6th July, and Tuesday afternoon, 7th July 2026, to come forward. Investigators are particularly interested in reviewing any available CCTV, dashcam, or mobile phone footage from the vicinity during those hours to aid in tracking the suspect's movements.
