Britons are being urged to enjoy the dry, warm weather while it lasts as a deluge of rain fast approaches.
The UK will be completely submerged in rain in just 72 hours, according to the most recent weather maps.
Rain is expected to cover a wide swath of the nation, reaching as far north as Wick, Scotland, and as far south as Plymouth, England.
The weather on the most recent WXCharts weather map changed dramatically from Sunday night to Monday afternoon. On Sunday night, between 6 and 9 p.m., the weather maps indicate that there will be dry weather throughout the nation.
However, a creeping band of rain will first hit Ireland by Monday morning before reaching Britain by Monday afternoon.
Scotland will bear the brunt of the deluge, particularly the western coast which could see more than 6mm of rain an hour. Western Localised downpours in Western Scotland could lead to flash flooding, especially in regions with already saturated ground.
The North East, including Newcastle, parts of the Midlands, the South West and Wales will also all be soaked by Monday evening.
Most of the country will receive around 2mm of rain per hour by Monday evening but areas in southern England such as Plymouth will see triple that amount of rain.
Manchester and Cardiff could get away with a less intense rainstorm, less than a millimetre of rain an hour, while London and parts of Central England appear to miss most of the rain altogether.
The rain persists across the rest of Monday and into the next day before fading away on Tuesday evening.
David Oliver, a Deputy Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office, explained: “Monday sees changes in the jet stream, these bringing an Atlantic frontal system toward the UK.
"This will bring some cloudy, wet, and windy conditions to many areas during the course of Monday and Tuesday, with strong winds possible in the north .”
The presence of Hurricane Ernesto, a category two hurricane heading for Bermuda, could see a return to torrential rain across the UK by Thursday. It is expected to move into the North Atlantic next week and will probably have an impact on the weather patterns that will affect the UK.
Meanwhile, Britons will enjoy dry weather and sunny spells this weekend, though the temperatures will be significantly lower than earlier this week, which saw the hottest day of the year on Monday as temperatures passed 34C in the south of England.
