  • Scotland Yard has formally named forty-year-old British-Bangladeshi father Masum Miah as the victim of a fatal car ambush in Newham, with no suspects detained sixty-one hours into the investigation.

Scotland Yard has formally identified 40-year-old British-Bangladeshi father Masum Miah as the victim of a fatal shooting in East London, with detectives confirming that no arrests have been made more than 61 hours after the ambush.

The fatal incident occurred at approximately 3:00 AM on Tuesday, 18 August, along St Bartholomew’s Road in East Ham, Newham (E6). Emergency services, including Metropolitan Police officers, the London Ambulance Service, and London’s Air Ambulance, were dispatched following reports of gunfire. Responders found the victim critically injured inside a white motor vehicle that had come to rest abandoned at an angle across the residential street. Despite immediate trauma care administered by paramedics and attending officers, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Perpetrators at Large as Homicide Command Seeks Motive- As of Thursday afternoon, over 61 hours since the shooting occurred, the Metropolitan Police have confirmed that the gunmen remain at large and no suspects have been apprehended. Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command established that suspects discharged multiple rounds directly into the white vehicle before fleeing the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Dan Whitten, who is leading the homicide investigation, confirmed that the motive behind the fatal assault remains officially unestablished. Specialist family liaison officers continue to provide support to the bereaved household while investigators preserve physical and ballistic evidence recovered from the location.

Family's Grief and Unclear Timeline on Fatal Night- A deeper examination of the timeline reveals that the victim's exact movements and purpose for being on St Bartholomew’s Road at 3:00 AM remain completely unaccounted for. Masum Miah, who had lived in the United Kingdom since his youth and previously resided in Shadwell, Tower Hamlets, lived in a joint family home in Newham alongside his younger brother. His family confirmed to journalists that he spent Monday evening at home showing affection to his two-and-a-half-year-old daughter before leaving the property later that night.

The victim had formerly worked within the estate agency sector before recently transitioning to work in delivery services. Both investigating detectives and his family confirmed it is entirely unknown what he was doing or where he was travelling at the exact moment he was ambushed. Both the victim’s body and the targeted white vehicle remain in official police custody for forensic ballistic examinations and post-mortem proceedings.

Community Reaction Across London and Ancestral Home- The fatal ambush has prompted widespread mourning across East London and in the victim's ancestral home in Purba Karikona, Ward Number 3 of the Bishwanath Municipality in Sylhet, Bangladesh, where public announcements were broadcast over community mosque speaker systems. The killing marks London’s second fatal shooting within August, following the death of a 25-year-old man in Clapham North on 10 August.

Detective Chief Inspector Whitten reiterated the Met's appeal for public assistance, confirming an elevated presence of uniformed officers across Newham to conduct reassurance patrols. Investigators are reviewing residential CCTV, video doorbell recordings, and automatic number-plate recognition data to trace the suspects' escape route. Anyone who observed suspicious activity in the area around 3:00 AM on Tuesday, or who captured dashcam footage along surrounding corridors, is urged to contact police on 101 quoting reference CAD797/18AUG, or report anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
