Sheikh Hasina wants visa, not asylum

Jamal Ahmed Khan, the senior leader of the UK Jubo League, said in response to the question of Daily Dazzling Dawn on Saturday, "I am saying with responsibility that Sheikh Hasina will not seek political asylum in India or any other country. She might apply for a visa for an interim period."

According to another source, the Bangladesh government has cancelled Sheikh Hasina's diplomatic passport, but she has another Bangladeshi passport with her.

Bangladesh's interim foreign affairs advisor, Mohammed Touhid Hossain, has stated that as cases against Sheikh Hasina build, his country may consider requesting the former premier's extradition, although this would create a "embarrassing situation for the Indian government." In an exclusive interview with Reuters TV in Dhaka, Hossain stated that "since there are so many cases" against Hasina in Bangladesh, the country's home and law ministries could request her extradition."Her stay in Delhi, in India, raises the question of...there are so many cases (against Hasina) that could be... again, some speculating, I am not a person right to answer this, but if there is a request from there (Ministry of Home and Ministry of Law), we have to ask for her return to Bangladesh. If there is a demand from there, it will be embarrassing for the Indian administration. So I believe the Indian administration is aware of this, and I am confident they will take appropriate action," Hossain told Reuters TV."Her being in Delhi, in India, the question comes that...there are so many cases (against Hasina) that may be... again, some guessing, I am not the proper person to answer this, if there is a request from there (Ministry of Home and Ministry of Law) we have to ask for her, you know, return to Bangladesh. If there is a demand from there, that creates an embarrassing situation for the Indian government. So I think the Indian government knows this and I am sure they will take care of it", Hossain told Reuters TV.

Sheikh Hasina landed in India on August 5 following a violent student uprising against her. According to the news from Bangladeshi media, Hasina and 24 others have filed a case with the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands, alleging violations of human rights.
