The Saga of the Bangladesh Army

“In war, we fight; in peace, we stand firm – always for our nation.” This enduring creed guides the Bangladesh Army, whose skill and professionalism have earned it a place of pride on the global stage. Like a steadfast guardian, the Army's contributions to United Nations peacekeeping missions have not only upheld global harmony but also illuminated Bangladesh’s image as a nation committed to peace and cooperation.

Through its participation in these multinational arenas, the Army stands as both a beneficiary and contributor to military advancements and technological progress worldwide. However, amidst their commendable efforts, some ill-intentioned groups spread falsehoods and misinformation against the Army in foreign media and on social platforms. Yet, like the unyielding roots of a banyan tree, the Army remains unwavering in its duty to the people and the state.

The Army's Enduring Bond with the People

Whenever the nation trembles under the weight of adversity, the Army steps in, embodying hope and resilience. Amid a deteriorating security situation, their deployment ensures the safety of lives, key installations, and public order. Their presence, alongside other forces, swiftly restores calm, often acting as the antidote to anarchy.

This unwavering commitment was evident in August 2024 when, at a pivotal juncture in the nation's history, the Army accelerated the formation of an interim government, pulling the nation back from the brink of instability. Through this act, the Army once again solidified its place as a beacon of trust and reassurance for the people.

Echoes of History: A Tradition of Integrity

Born amidst the flames of the 1971 Liberation War, the Bangladesh Army has always stood by its people. During the tumultuous 1990s, when the nation was gripped by a democratic uprising, the Army chose solidarity with the people over allegiance to a regime. Under the leadership of Lieutenant General Mohammad Nooruddin Khan, this decision became a testament to the Army’s integrity.

Fast forward to 2024, history found its voice again under the leadership of General Waqar-uz-Zaman. Refusing to resort to violence against protesting students and citizens, General Zaman honored the people's aspirations. His decision marked a turning point, steering the nation away from chaos and toward stability. In a profound gesture of statesmanship, he transferred authority to the interim government led by Nobel Laureate Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, showcasing unparalleled maturity and dedication to the nation.

Amid Storms, a Steady Hand

During the fragile aftermath of the 2024 democratic uprising, the Army played a critical role in stabilizing the country. With law enforcement struggling in the early days of the interim government, the Army stepped in to maintain order and address crises. From quelling judicial upheavals and labor unrest to aiding flood-stricken communities in Feni and Comilla, the Army's contributions have been nothing short of extraordinary.

Even as conspiracies brew against the government, both at home and abroad, the Army remains a stalwart defender of the nation’s sovereignty and stability. Their efforts have been instrumental in confronting crises such as Ansar mutinies and safeguarding the garment sector, a vital lifeline of the economy, from chaos.

A Legacy of Trust, A Future of Service

At the inaugural session of the Army Selection Board 2024, held on October 6, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus praised the Army as a symbol of trust for the people, remarking, “In the wake of the people's revolution, the Army has emerged as a cornerstone of public faith.” He expressed confidence that the Army would continue to stand by the nation in its hours of need, just as it has in the past.

In the tapestry of Bangladesh's history, the Army is a thread of resilience, sacrifice, and unity. As the nation marches forward, one truth remains undeniable: in times of peace and peril alike, the Bangladesh Army will remain a sentinel, unwavering in its dedication to the people it serves.
