A pro-Palestine group expects hundreds of thousands to join a protest in London on Saturday, as the Metropolitan Police prepare a large security presence to prevent clashes with counter-demonstrators.
The Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC), along with five other groups, will gather in Whitehall at noon before marching to the US embassy in Nine Elms Lane, southwest London, where speeches will be delivered.
The protest follows a recent proposal by former US President Donald Trump suggesting that the United States could take control of Gaza and redevelop it into the “Riviera of the Middle East.”
Meanwhile, a counter-protest organized by Stop The Hate will take place at the junction of Grosvenor Road and Vauxhall Bridge along the march route.
Scotland Yard stated that a strong police presence will be in place to ensure the two groups do not engage in physical confrontations.
Authorities have coordinated with organizers and imposed conditions under the Public Order Act, including designated routes, assembly points, and strict time limits to minimize disruption.
Commander Glen Pavelin warned that violating these conditions or encouraging others to do so would be a criminal offense.
Police have mandated that the pro-Palestine march must begin by 1pm, follow the set route, and conclude speeches by 4pm. Meanwhile, Stop The Hate protesters must disperse by 3:30pm.
The PSC estimates that hundreds of thousands will take part in the demonstration.
