Bangladeshi political activists in London have been active since before the arrival of Dr. Muhammad Yunus, chief adviser of Bangladesh's interim government. While Awami League, Jamaat, and other party activists were directly on the ground Tuesday to welcome Dr. Yunus, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) was notably absent, with no significant presence of their members. Given that the party's acting chairman, Tareque Rahman, has resided in the UK for a long time, the UK branch is considered the party's second stronghold outside Bangladesh. In the recent past, BNP programs in London have seen large turnouts of activists. However, the party's members remained silent since the beginning of Dr. Muhammad Yunus's visit. Finally, on Tuesday night, they broke their silence and officially announced plans to mobilize on Friday, Daily Dazzling Dawn understands.
With UK BNP President M.A. Malek on Hajj pilgrimage and General Secretary Kaysar M. Ahmad in Bangladesh, Senior Vice President Abul Kalam Azad and First Joint General Secretary Parvez Mallick confirmed their presence at the gathering during a discussion with journalists on Tuesday night. They stated that a number of UK BNP activists will take up positions outside the Central London hotel where Dr. Yunus is scheduled to meet with Tareque Rahman on Friday morning.
A senior, unnamed leader of the UK BNP revealed to Daily Dazzling Dawn that the decision has been made for activists not to carry any banners or placards. Furthermore, no text messages will be sent to invite members to the program; those who wish to attend are expected to do so spontaneously.
When asked about the potential turnout, the leader indicated that at least six hundred activists would be present outside during the meeting between the chief adviser and Tareque Rahman.
Attempts to contact First Joint Secretary Parvez Mallick by phone on Tuesday midnight for a comment on the program were unsuccessful.
