BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has canceled his family's scheduled trip to perform Umrah, which was planned for October 20. The leader is suffering from a fever and a cold-related ailment. His condition was highlighted on yesterday when he was seen wearing a mask while meeting a visitor. Concerns remain as to whether the illness is a common cold or potentially COVID-19, prompting Mr. Rahman to use a mask as a precautionary measure.Due to fever, he could not even attend the Friday Jummah prayer.
Sources close to the BNP in London have confirmed that Mr. Rahman was scheduled to leave London with his family on the 20th of this month for the pilgrimage, with all preparations, including Umrah visas and tickets, already finalised. However, at the last moment, he has canceled the travel plan.
Furthermore, Mr. Rahman is now looking to significantly accelerate his planned return to Bangladesh. While his initial intention was to return in the third week of November, sources indicate he now wishes to return in the second week of November. This revised schedule is aimed at ensuring he can be in the country for a full three months to actively engage in and lead the election campaign ahead of the polls. It remains unclear whether he will perform Umrah on his way back home, but final preparations for his imminent return to the country are currently underway. There is a chance he might return on Thursday, November 20th, by a Biman Bangladesh flight from London.
Multiple close BNP sources in London confirmed this information to the Daily Dazzling Dawn on Saturday afternoon.
A UK BNP leader, speaking to this correspondent on Saturday afternoon, stated that the leader's wish is to return precisely three months before the election to be able to effectively work on the ground for the campaign. "All his preparations are complete; he is ready to return home as early as tomorrow," the leader claimed.
Separately, a source revealed that a bulletproof minibus and a bulletproof SUV are being imported from Japan for use in the nationwide election campaign. Those responsible for Tarique Rahman’s security are currently reviewing and finalising the security protocols to be implemented upon his arrival in the country.
Meanwhile, the President and General Secretary of the UK BNP, M A Malek and Qaisar M Ahmed respectively, are both currently busy with their own election campaigning activities in Bangladesh.
When asked about the progress of Tarique Rahman’s homecoming, Parvez Mallick, the First Joint General Secretary of the UK BNP, told the Daily Dazzling Dawn on Saturday afternoon, "The leader himself has said he will return home soon. However, the exact date is yet to be finalised."
