Daily Dazzling Dawn can today reveal that William Kidd, the 27-year-old self-confessed “sex addict” jailed for spraying his semen on unsuspecting women in supermarkets, is now facing the prospect of additional charges after forensic analysis of his electronic devices uncovered a pattern of behaviour that extended beyond the original indictment.
Kidd, of Stanbank Street, Reddish, Stockport, was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment at Manchester Crown Court on Friday, May 29, after pleading guilty to 25 offences. However, law enforcement sources have told this newspaper that digital evidence recovered from his mobile telephone continues to be examined, with detectives actively tracing further potential victims who have not yet come forward.
The known offending took place between May and September of last year across six locations: supermarkets in Stockport, Denton (Tameside), Macclesfield, Handforth, Stanley Green (Cheshire), and additional retail premises not previously named in court filings. Kidd was captured on closed-circuit television trailing women through aisles before spraying a liquid – later confirmed by forensic analysis to contain his semen – onto their hair or backs. On multiple occasions, the victims were entirely unaware that an assault had occurred.
A Disturbing Digital Trail
The most troubling revelations emerged from Kidd’s seized handset. A search uncovered footage showing Kidd filming up the skirt of a woman who was simultaneously pushing a shopping trolley containing her five-year-old daughter. That same woman had been followed through the store before the recording began. In another video, a mother with two young children was covertly filmed from below as she reached for items on a higher shelf.
Detective Constable Tiffany Berry-Perkin told a journalist: “Kidd deliberately targeted innocent women as they went about their everyday lives, entirely unaware of the depraved acts he was committing against them. His behaviour is completely unacceptable, and I welcome the fact that he is now being held accountable behind bars, where he can no longer pose a danger to women in our communities.”
What has not been widely reported is that Kidd used an empty household cleaning spray bottle to store and dispense his semen. He would fill the bottle at home before travelling to retail destinations, sometimes driving more than 20 miles between counties in a single afternoon. Retail staff at three of the stores later told police they had noticed a man loitering near women’s hair products and personal care aisles but had not felt able to intervene without concrete evidence.
The Security Guard Confrontation
When challenged by a security guard at a Handforth supermarket, Kidd reportedly stated: “I’m a sex addict.” He told a second member of retail staff: “I did it to get a sexual thrill.” Those admissions were later used by the Crown Prosecution Service to establish intent for the most serious charges.
Senior Crown Prosecutor Shannen Carey, from the CPS Mersey-Cheshire’s Rape and Serious Sexual Offences unit, told this newspaper: “Over a period of around four months last summer, William Kidd became a prolific offender targeting women who were completely unaware of what he was doing and were simply shopping. Kidd clearly gave no thought at all to how these women would feel. The effect of what he did will no doubt stay with the victims for a long time, and he is now a convicted sex offender.”
Ms Carey also extended formal thanks to the victims for their assistance in bringing the prosecution, as well as to retail staff who provided crucial closed-circuit television evidence.
Legal sources have confirmed that Kidd’s four-year custodial sentence includes an extended licence period of three years, meaning he will remain under supervised probation for a total of seven years from his date of release. He has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.
Cheshire Police have stated that their investigation remains technically open. A spokesperson told Daily Dazzling Dawn: “While Mr Kidd has been sentenced for the 25 offences to which he pleaded guilty, digital forensic work continues on secondary devices. Any further victims identified will be offered specialist support, and additional charges may follow where evidence supports them.”
Detective Sergeant Steven Kaminski added: “Kidd was fully aware that what he was doing was wrong. He knew his actions would cause his victims extreme distress, yet he chose to continue, deliberately travelling to multiple stores across two counties with the intention of violating and ultimately sexually assaulting innocent women. Putting an end to violence against women and girls remains a top priority for the force.”
The Cannabis Discovery
During the search of Kidd’s property in Reddish, officers also located a quantity of cannabis, leading to the single possession charge included in his 25 guilty pleas. That charge was classified separately from the sexual offences and did not affect the overall sentencing tariff.
A Pattern of Escalation
Criminologists consulted by this newspaper note that Kidd’s behaviour followed an escalation pattern typical of undetected sexual offending. He began with upskirting – filming women from below – before progressing to physical application of bodily fluids. The fact that he carried a prepared bottle of his own semen to multiple locations on different dates indicates premeditation rather than opportunistic impulse.
No psychological assessment has been released to the public, but court documents seen by Daily Dazzling Dawn indicate that a pre-sentence report described Kidd as having “poor insight into the full impact of his actions” and exhibiting “entrenched patterns of objectification of female strangers.”
How Victims Can Seek Help
Cheshire Police have urged any woman who believes she may have been targeted by Kidd – or who experienced similar incidents in Stockport, Tameside, Macclesfield, Handforth or Stanley Green between May and September last year – to contact the force’s rape and serious sexual assault unit directly. Specialist independent sexual violence advisers are available without requirement to make a formal statement.
