The extensive murder investigation into the fatal beating of 35-year-old British Pakistani father Suhail Choudry has taken a fresh turn following the arrest of a 26-year-old man from the Bradford District. Detectives confirmed the suspect was taken into custody on 27 July on suspicion of murder before being released on police bail pending continuing enquiries.
The latest arrest brings the overall number of individuals detained in connection with the inquiry to eleven, reflecting the complex and wide-ranging nature of the West Yorkshire Police probe.
Mr Choudry, a devoted family man from Keighley, sustained catastrophic head injuries during the early hours of 8 February when he was chased through Flasby Street and brutally assaulted by a group armed with bats and sticks. Two other men, aged 21 and 24, were also targeted in the same incident but survived with non-life-threatening injuries. Mr Choudry was rushed to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries three days later.
In an emotional tribute shared following his passing, his grieving widow, Zara Choudry—who was pregnant with their third child at the time of the tragedy—described her husband as a man whose life revolved entirely around his young family. She told journalists that being a father was his proudest title and that he was their entire world. Expressing the unimaginable sorrow facing her household, she added that telling their children their daddy had passed away was something no mother should ever have to do, revealing that the family will never find peace with the manner in which he was taken.
Investigations by homicide detectives have led to six men being charged with murder, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, and violent disorder. Those remanded in custody include Rashid Hussain, 41; Mohammed Aliyan Khan, 23; Faisal Khan, 26; Hakeem Gulzar, 27; Majid Hussain, 42; and Waseem Islam, 39. In addition to the principal charges, police previously arrested a 27-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman on suspicion of assisting an offender, alongside several other suspects released on conditional bail while forensic and digital evidence analysis continues.
