  • Former police community support officer Raymond Williams has been convicted of murder after stalking and ambushing his estranged wife in Norwich.

A 61-year-old former police community support officer has been unanimously convicted of murder after stalking his 49-year-old estranged wife across Norwich nightlife venues and fatally ambushing her outside her home. Raymond Williams, an American national originally from Dallas, Texas, carried out the calculated attack on Tania Williams on the night of 17 January 2026 following the collapse of their 26-year marriage. Following a 17-day trial at Norwich Crown Court, a jury of seven men and five women rejected the defendant's claims of innocence, delivering a unanimous guilty verdict. The court heard that Williams had become entirely consumed by jealousy over the independent life his younger wife had established following their marital breakdown.

A Deadly Pursuit Through Norwich City Centre

The fatal sequence of events began on Saturday evening when Tania Williams went out to socialise with friends in Norwich city centre. Extensive closed-circuit television footage recovered by detectives from Norfolk Constabulary captured Williams systematically searching venues across the city to track down his estranged wife. Prosecutors told the court that Williams was seen confronting a man who was speaking to Tania, aggressively pointing to his own wedding ring to assert that they were still legally married.

Williams subsequently tracked Tania into Revolucion de Cuba on Queen Street, where further surveillance footage showed the pair exiting together as she visibly attempted to create physical distance between them. After they parted company, Tania headed towards transport to make her way back to her residence in Catherine Gardens, Thorpe St Andrew. Williams then switched off his mobile telephone and drove his vehicle to the vicinity of her suburban address, positioning his car on Yarmouth Road to lie in wait for her arrival.

Fatal Ambush and Forensics

Residents in Catherine Gardens alerted emergency services at 23:40 GMT after hearing distress screams and urgent voices in the street. Neighbours rushed outside to discover the 49-year-old mother lying on the ground with catastrophic neck lacerations. Paramedics and police officers rendered emergency first aid, but Tania succumbed to catastrophic blood loss and was pronounced dead at the scene minutes before midnight.

Norfolk Constabulary detectives quickly uncovered crucial forensic links that tied Williams to the scene of the killing. A blood-stained craft blade was recovered on a grass verge near Tania's personal belongings. Forensic examiners subsequently located Williams' vehicle parked near his residence on Dereham Road, identifying multiple bloodstains across the interior and on the driver’s window that perfectly matched the victim’s DNA profile. Daily Dazzling Dawn understands that Williams was arrested outside his home at 02:45 GMT the following morning.

Origins, Marriage, and Obsessive Jealousy

The trial exposed the background of Williams, who had moved to the United Kingdom from Texas. Former colleagues reported that Williams previously claimed to have served in American law enforcement and had spent time coaching with the Dallas Cowboys football organisation. In Norfolk, he had worked as a council parking warden, served as a Norfolk Constabulary Police Community Support Officer, and later worked as a railway employee and trade union representative for Greater Anglia at Norwich Station.

The couple had been married for 26 years and raised three children together, alongside a fourth adult child from Tania's previous relationship who resides in the United States. Following persistent difficulties, the relationship fractured irreversibly, leading Williams to leave the family home in September 2025. Jurors were informed of a historical complaint in April 2019 when Williams was alleged to have assaulted and threatened Tania at her address, though the police investigation was discontinued when she withdrew her statement. Prosecutors demonstrated that Williams refused to accept the finality of their separation and was driven to murder by bitter resentment.

Community Mourning and Institutional Justice

Tania Williams was widely regarded as a deeply compassionate and vibrant presence within the local area, working at City College Norwich, serving as a dedicated volunteer at the Oxfam shop on Magdalen Street, and participating actively in the congregation of Thorpe St Andrew Church. More than two hundred mourners attended her memorial service, where local clergy paid tribute to her enduring warmth and kindness.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Sam Pontin, speaking to journalists, praised the victim’s family for maintaining exceptional dignity and resilience throughout the traumatic 17-day trial. Norfolk Constabulary confirmed that Raymond Williams remains remanded in custody at HMP Norwich and is scheduled to receive a mandatory life sentence at Norwich Crown Court on 25 September 2026.
