Four people have appeared before Sheffield Magistrates’ Court charged with murder after a newborn baby girl, known publicly only as Baby S, was found dead in an outhouse in the Wincobank area of Sheffield. Prosecutors told the court that the baby had suffered 33 wounds caused by 15 separate stabbings.
Andrea Skopova, 20, Peter Horvath Jnr, 19, Peter Horvath Snr, 38, and Nina Horvathova, 37, appeared before District Judge Tim Spruce on Wednesday morning.
All four defendants were remanded in custody and are due to appear at Sheffield Crown Court on Thursday.
The case concerns the death of Baby S, whose body was discovered at an address in Wincobank on Sunday. The defendants are also accused of causing or allowing the death of a child and perverting the course of justice.
Prosecutor Luke Hopkinson told Sheffield Magistrates’ Court that Baby S had suffered 33 wounds from 15 “separate stabbings”.
The allegations were outlined during the defendants’ first court appearance following their arrests.
The court heard that the four adult defendants are Slovakian nationals. They appeared wearing identical grey T-shirts and were accompanied by security officers in the courtroom.
Horvath Jnr, Horvath Snr and Horvathova are listed as living at Holywell Heights, while Skopova is listed as living on Robey Street in the Grimesthorpe area of Sheffield.
The charges relating to perverting the course of justice include an allegation that the scene of the alleged crime was cleaned.

A 15-year-old girl, who cannot legally be identified, appeared before the court separately later on Wednesday.
She is charged with perverting the course of justice in connection with the same investigation.
The teenager became distressed in the dock as legal submissions were made over whether she should be granted bail.
District Judge Tim Spruce ordered that she should remain in youth custody until Thursday, when she is also expected to appear before Sheffield Crown Court alongside the adult defendants.
The reporting restrictions protecting the identity of the 15-year-old remain in force.
The court also heard that two women, aged 26 and 37, were arrested on suspicion of murder as part of the police investigation.
Both women remain on bail.
No further details about the investigation were outlined during the brief hearings, and the court process is continuing.
