A murder investigation has been launched by the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) following the tragic discovery of a deceased pregnant woman, now identified as 27-year-old Sarah Montgomery, a mother of two. Her body was found inside a house in the Elmfield Walk area of Donaghadee on Saturday afternoon, leading to the swift arrest of a 28-year-old man on suspicion of murder. The suspect currently remains in police custody, assisting with ongoing enquiries.

Detective Chief Inspector Tom Phillips confirmed that police received a report at approximately 2:15 PM on Saturday, detailing an unconscious woman with a serious injury inside the residence. Emergency services, including PSNI officers and colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, promptly attended the scene, where Ms. Montgomery was sadly pronounced dead.

"Inquiries are at an early stage into this deeply tragic case," stated Detective Chief Inspector Phillips. "Our thoughts are profoundly with Sarah’s family during this incredibly difficult time as they struggle to come to terms with what has happened." He added that Sarah's family is receiving support from specially trained officers as the extensive investigation continues. The scene in Elmfield Walk has been meticulously preserved for detailed forensic examination, with police cordons remaining in place as officers continue their work.

North Area Chief Inspector Yvonne McManus addressed the immediate impact on the local community, acknowledging that the news would undoubtedly cause "shock and concern." She reassured residents that a visible police presence would remain in the area, encouraging anyone with concerns, or in need of help or advice, to approach officers directly.

"We recognise the profound impact that violence against women and girls has on individuals, families and wider society," Chief Inspector McManus reiterated. "Addressing this issue remains a key priority, and we are committed to engaging directly with the local community to offer support, build trust, and help people feel safe."

The PSNI has appealed to anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the Elmfield Walk area, or who has any information that could assist the investigation, to come forward immediately. Information can be provided directly to police or anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers. The investigation is dynamic and ongoing, with authorities working diligently to establish the full circumstances surrounding Sarah Montgomery's death.
