Justice Pursued for Farmanullah Sherzad as Murder Charge Filed

The Metropolitan Police have confirmed a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the death of Farmanullah Sherzad. Suliaman Tajzai, 18, of Wesley Road, Leeds, was formally charged with murder on Tuesday, March 31. Tajzai is scheduled to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court today, Wednesday, April 1, 2026. A second suspect, a 21-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder, remains in police custody as inquiries continue.

A post-mortem examination has officially concluded that the cause of death was multiple sharp force trauma injuries. The 26-year-old victim was discovered by officers at approximately 10:17 pm on March 27 in Abbey Orchard Street, SW1. Despite the immediate first aid provided by police and the London Ambulance Service, he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The tragedy has left a family in profound grief, compounded by the timing of the incident. Speaking to journalists, the victim’s brother, Wafiullah, shared the devastating emotional toll on their household back in Afghanistan.

"I'm Wafiullah from Afghanistan, brother of Farmanullah Sherzad," he told a journalist. "Thank you so much for your kind words and prayers. God has taken back His trust, and I am deeply heartbroken. My happiness has faded forever. We had three weddings coming up—mine, Farmanullah Shirzad's, and Arifullah & Inamullah's—but now everything has turned into mourning. Farmanullah's wife is still out shopping for the wedding, unaware of his death. Even my father doesn't know yet; when he asked why Farmanullah wasn't speaking to him, I had to tell him a lie just to hide the painful truth. My heart is heavy."

Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command are continuing to appeal for witnesses. While the formal charge marks a pivotal moment in the judicial process, investigators remain keen to speak with anyone who was in the vicinity of Abbey Orchard Street or St James's Park between 10:00 pm and 10:30 pm on the night of the attack.

The local community in Westminster remains under a heightened police presence as patrols continue to offer reassurance to residents. The investigation, led by Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley, is focused on piecing together the final movements of the victim and the suspects to establish a clear motive for the incident.
