First asylum-seeker deported to Rwanda under Rishi Sunak's migrant crackdown
As a result of a crackdown on visa issuance, the number of foreign workers and students entering Britain in the first three months of the year decreased, marking the beginning of the country's record-breaking decline in immigration.
In the first quarter of 2023, the UK issued 184,000 visas; since then, just 139,100 have been given to skilled professionals, students and their families, and health and care workers.
These groups, which accounted for the majority of immigration to the nation in 2023, received 1.13 million visas.
The most recent statistics follow yesterday's deportation of the first asylum seeker to Rwanda as part of Rishi Sunak's anti-migrant campaign.
