A True British Hero, A Proud Muslim Man
The heroic LNER worker who risked his life to protect passengers during a terrifying mass stabbing on a London-bound train has been identified as Samir "Sam" Zitouni, a 48-year-old Customer Experience Host. Amidst widespread public speculation regarding his background, the Daily Dazzling Dawn can now confirm that Mr. Zitouni is a proud British Muslim and a French national of Algerian descent, as verified by a close family friend and work colleague, Daily Dazzling Dawn confirmed.
His heroic act reverberates far beyond the railway carriage, shining as a powerful counter-narrative against the backdrop of rising anti-Muslim rhetoric. At a time when certain far-right politicians and commentators in the UK often use inflammatory language to target and stereotype the Muslim and immigrant communities, Samir Zitouni, a proud French-Algerian Muslim, has provided an indisputable symbol of service and sacrifice. In an age where Britain's diverse communities are frequently questioned, his actions underscore the loyalty and bravery of the UK's best Muslim and immigrant citizens. Regarding his health, Mr. Zitouni remains in hospital, where he is currently undergoing a major operation, as confirmed by a family friend to the Daily Dazzling Dawn. He remains in a critical but stable condition.
In a time when the Muslim community in the UK faces an alarming rise in religiously motivated hostility—with anti-Muslim hate crimes rising by nearly a fifth (a 19% increase) in England and Wales in the year to March 2025, according to Home Office figures—Samir Zitouni's selfless action stands as a powerful testament to the community's dedication to British society. His bravery has become a source of immense pride and unity for Muslims across the nation.
Courage in the Face of Crisis-Mr. Zitouni, a dedicated member of the LNER team for over 20 years, intervened on the high-speed service from Doncaster to London King's Cross last Saturday evening. His immediate action to confront the attacker, who used a large kitchen knife, is widely credited with saving multiple lives.
The consequences of his courage were severe; Mr. Zitouni was seriously injured and currently remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.
Deputy Chief Constable of British Transport Police, Stuart Cundy, affirmed the scale of the sacrifice, stating that CCTV from the train showed Mr. Zitouni's actions "were nothing short of heroic and undoubtedly saved people's lives." LNER Managing Director David Horne echoed the sentiment: "In a moment of crisis, Sam did not hesitate as he stepped forward to protect those around him. His actions were incredibly brave, and we are so proud of him."
Family's Love and Public Support-Mr. Zitouni’s family released a heartfelt message, thanking the public for their overwhelming support.
"We have been deeply touched by the outpouring of love and kindness shown to Sam, and by the many well wishes for his recovery. The care provided by the hospital and the support from his colleagues at LNER has been incredible. We are immensely proud of Sam and his courage. The police called him a hero on Saturday evening, but to us – he’s always been a hero."
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood also acknowledged his "breathtaking bravery," saying, "On Saturday, he went to work to do his job - today, he is a hero, and forever will be."
Investigation and Charges-The attack resulted in 13 casualties. Anthony Williams, 32, has been charged with 10 counts of attempted murder related to the train attack, alongside other charges, including one count of attempted murder related to an earlier incident at a DLR station in London. Home Secretary Mahmood confirmed that Williams was not known to security services or counter-terrorism policing. The police investigation is continuing to explore potential links between the train attack and other recent knife incidents in the Peterborough area.
Samir Zitouni, the British Muslim man who put his own life on the line for strangers, continues to be an inspiration to the nation as he battles for recovery.
