Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to Bangladesh's Chief Adviser, caused a stir today by providing erroneous information concerning British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer during a press briefing.
Alam stated that no meeting has yet been scheduled between Sir Keir Starmer and Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser to Bangladesh's interim government, who is currently visiting London. Citing a British MP, Shafiqul Alam further claimed on Tuesday that 'Prime Minister Keir Starmer probably currently on a visit to Canada.'
Shafiqul Alam elaborated that if Keir Starmer returns to the UK by June 14, while Professor Yunus is still in London, and if his schedule permits, a meeting could potentially take place. These details were provided by Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam during a press conference held at the Bangladesh High Commission building in London at approximately 4:15 PM local time today, Tuesday.

However, a Daily Dazzling Dawn correspondent has confirmed that the information provided by Shafiqul Alam regarding the British Prime Minister's presence in Canada is incorrect. The British Prime Minister is, in fact, in Britain.

Barrister Salah Uddin Sumon, a partner at London's Lowmatric Solicitors, stated, "The Honorable Chief Adviser's Press Secretary should have exercised greater responsibility before commenting on the British Prime Minister. This is especially true given that an advance team arrived in Britain before the Chief Adviser's visit, and a powerful wing of the Bangladesh government, including significant staff at the Bangladesh High Commission in London, is actively working."
Attempts to reach Shafiqul Alam for comment via Messenger calls were unsuccessful. Similarly, calls to Bangladesh's Press Minister in London, Akbar Hossain, also went unanswered.
As of today, June 10, 2025, the British Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, is indeed in the UK. He held a meeting at Downing Street with the families of Bebe King, Elsie Dot Stancombe, and Alice Aguiar, where he discussed plans for a legacy garden in Southport and announced government funding for the project. He also had a call with Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre of Norway, during which they discussed sanctions on Israeli ministers and the importance of collective defense for NATO allies. Furthermore, he was involved in announcing a £14.2 billion investment in the Sizewell C nuclear plant, visiting Suffolk New College in Ipswich to speak about it, and delivering remarks at London Tech Week 2025 where he opened the event alongside the CEO of NVIDIA.
