Three personnel were killed and at least five others injured on Monday when three suicide attackers targeted the headquarters of a Pakistani paramilitary unit in Peshawar, officials reported.

According to police, the assailants fired shots while forcibly entering the Frontier Constabulary compound, eventually detonating explosives inside the premises. Deputy Commandant Javed Iqbal confirmed the deaths of three members of the force.

A senior official, speaking anonymously as he was not authorised to comment publicly, said the first blast occurred at the main gate, enabling two additional attackers to enter the compound.

"Security forces, including army and police units, have sealed off the area and are conducting a cautious operation as there are fears that additional militants may still be inside," he stated.

The headquarters is situated within a heavily populated part of Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Local resident Safdar Khan told Reuters that the access road had been shut down by security forces.

Among the wounded were two paramilitary personnel. They were transported to Lady Reading Hospital, according to its spokesperson, Mohammad Asim.

No organisation has yet taken responsibility for the attack. Militants in the region have escalated violence in recent weeks, following fatal border confrontations last month between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Islamabad accuses the Afghan Taliban of providing sanctuary to armed groups conducting cross-border assaults — allegations Kabul has repeatedly rejected.
