Mamata Banerjee Raises Concerns Over Vote Counting Delay in Bengal

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has alleged irregularities in the ongoing vote-counting process for the state assembly elections, claiming that counting has been deliberately slowed in constituencies where her party is leading.

In a video message shared on the social platform X, Banerjee urged party workers to remain at counting centers and stay alert. She claimed that authorities were prioritizing constituencies where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was expected to perform well, calling it part of a broader strategy.

Banerjee further alleged that counting had been halted in nearly 100 constituencies after just a few rounds. She accused election officials of withholding results in around 70 to 100 seats where her party, the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), was reportedly ahead.

In addition, the chief minister criticized the role of police and central paramilitary forces, accusing them of intimidating TMC workers. She also questioned the neutrality of the Election Commission of India, alleging bias in the handling of the counting process.

Despite the concerns, Banerjee expressed confidence that the full picture would become clearer after 14 to 18 rounds of counting and encouraged her supporters not to lose hope.

So far, there has been no official response from the Election Commission, BJP leaders, or security agencies regarding these allegations.

Banerjee, who has served as chief minister for three consecutive terms, faces a critical moment in her political career. A potential loss for her party could significantly impact opposition politics at the national level.
